Do I need a Videographer for my Wedding?

You have just about everything done. Groom, check. Location, check. Dress, check. Photographer, check, Food, check. Hmm.. Videographer? Do I want a video of my wedding? Can I get a friend or family member to do it?

When my wife and I were married 17 years ago we totally forgot about getting someone to video our wedding. We have always regretted that.

Getting a friend or family member to do it is better than nothing, but it will probably be less than desirable to watch. And the audio is what will be the worst.

So, what are the benefits to hiring a videographer and how much will it cost?

One benefit is experience. Seasoned videographers know where to be and where not to be. They have better equipment and know how to use it. Especially the audio capturing. They will always use wireless lavilier microphones on the groom and/or officiant to get great sounding vows. Better videographers will also capture any sound from the venue or DJ.

How much will it cost? There is quite a range. Expect to pay minimum $500 for a ceremony only up to $3000 for everything with movie like results. On average for a ceremony and reception expect to pay average $1000 to $1500.
